West of Sunshine Trailer Lands Before Venice Film Festival Debut

Anybody who headed our advice and saw one of the best films of 2016 – Pawno – will know that Damian Hill is a bloke to keep an eye on. Having firmly planted his flag in the soil of Australian cinema, Hill garnered a Best Actor nomination at the 6th AACTA Awards ceremony. With that all in mind, it’s great to see the trailer for Jordan Raftopoulos’ feature debut film West of Sunshine drop.

The plot is simple – Jim (Damian Hill) has a day to pay back a violent loan shark while also caring for his young son. With a cast that includes Kat Stewart (Offspring), Arthur Angel (Van Diemen’s Land) and Kaarin Fairfax (One Night the Moon), this looks to be a film that will certainly excite.

West of Sunshine joins an elite group of Australian films that have made their debut at the Venice Film Festival, with Ben Young’s Hounds of Love having made its debut there in 2016. Joining West of Sunshine at 2017’s Venice Film Festival is Warwick Thornton’s Sweet Country, with the films The Knife Salesman and Strange Colours joining in different areas.

Andrew has been a film lover all of his life. For a while now he's been talking about how great films are and usually that's been directly to his wife, Bernadette. Now with AB Film Review everyone else in the world can listen to what Andrew has to say to his wife. Bernadette grew up renting videos from a Plains Video. She mostly hired out Cry Baby and wore the tape thin learning the lines to the John Waters classic. After a series of arguments in the car ride home with her husband, Andrew, the two decided to record their arguments and launch them into the world for everyone to listen to.
